Flights

Two tandem flight offerings.

Introduction to Free-Flight Tandem for first-time flyers, and Coaching-Tandems for new pilots working toward independent flight.

Introduction to Free-Flight Tandem

Your first time in the air.

A tandem flight connected in front of a certified tandem pilot. No experience needed — just a willingness and ability to run a few steps on launch, trust the wing, and trust the pilot.

What to expect

You'll meet me at the base of our launch site. We'll drive up to launch together — the ride itself takes 15–25 minutes depending on which site conditions call for that day. On launch, I'll walk you through the handful of things you need to know, lay the wing out, and get you clipped in.

When conditions are right we run three or four steps and lift off together. From there, anywhere from 7 to 30 minutes of airtime — a direct "sledder" from launch to landing sits at the shorter end, a soaring day where we catch lift and climb sits at the longer. Either way: scenic, smooth, with gentle turns if you want them and perfectly calm straight-line flight if you don't. Landing is in the designated landing field down in the valley.

What's included

  • Shuttle ride up to launch
  • Pre-flight briefing + full equipment setup
  • 7–30 minutes of airtime, depending on conditions
  • All equipment: wing, harnesses, helmet, reserve parachute
  • A short video and/or photos of the experience may be provided
$300 CAD per flight

Includes everything above. Weather-dependent — if conditions aren't right on your date we reschedule at no cost, as many times as it takes.

What you'll need

  • Closed-toe shoes with ankle support
  • Comfortable long pants
  • Warmer layers to bring up — the air can be noticeably cooler up top than on the ground, even on warm days
  • Sunglasses, and sunscreen if it's a bluebird day
  • No prior experience of any kind

Fit for the sport

You need to be generally fit and free of recent injuries, and able to run a few short steps on launch. Weight range roughly 50–220 lb (25–100 kg). Tell me about any medical issues and we'll figure out whether it's OK to fly or not.

If a physical condition would make a standard tandem difficult or impossible, I'd be happy to refer you to Adaptive Airtime Paragliding — a Canadian non-profit specifically dedicated to adaptive tandem flight.

Coaching-Tandems for New Pilots

For signed-off P2+ pilots.

A tandem flight is one of the fastest ways to shortcut a learning curve that would otherwise take you a season. We fly together, I coach in real time, and you leave with concrete things to work on next time you're solo.

What we work on

Pick what you want to focus on and we'll build the flight around it. The usual suspects:

  • Thermalling & climb technique — core turns, centering drift, how to feel the lift side of a core
  • Reading the sky — cloudbase, cycles, trigger points, where to expect lift
  • XC line choice — picking the route between climbs, reading terrain, bailouts
  • Maneuvers you're not yet comfortable with solo — faster turns, rapid 360s, progressively advancing into spirals and spiral exits, wing-overs, big ears, and other basics worth practicing with a coach on your back
  • Decision-making — go/no-go, bailout thinking, reading your own fatigue

How it works

I'll take you up on a tandem flight — I handle the launch and the landing. Everything in between is yours. You fly, with the peace of mind of a coach on your back providing instantaneous feedback and ready to step in and help out wherever it's needed. A single flight like this tends to decode many of the mysteries of free-flight at once.

$300 CAD per flight

Same site options and same weather policy as an intro flight. Coaching flights aren't capped at 30 minutes though — if conditions allow and we're staying up, we stay up.

Prerequisites

  • HPAC P2 (Novice) rating or higher, in good standing
  • Current HPAC membership
  • Your own flying experience — bring it, we'll build on it

Before you book

Hit me up first so we can talk about what you're working on, what site makes sense, and whether a tandem is actually the best use of your money versus a few supervised solo flights at launch.

The reality of flying weather

We fly when the sky says we can.

Paragliding depends on conditions. Here's what that actually means for you.

Weather window

Most flights happen between May and October, when conditions are most consistent. Winter and early spring flights do happen — they're just rarer and more site-dependent.

Rescheduling

If I call off a flight for weather, we reschedule at no cost — as many times as it takes. Your money sits with me until you've actually flown.

Day-of calls

I usually make the final go/no-go call the morning of your flight, based on overnight weather models and what the sky is doing at launch. I'll text you as soon as I know.
